ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management
By failing to plan, you are planning to fail.
Every year 1000s of UK businesses are affected by unexpected events such as a pandemic (COVID-19), loss of key personnel, supply chain issues, fires, floods, loss of power, IT system failures and restricted access to premises. These unplanned events can have disastrous effects costing time, money, loss of customers and in some cases going out of business altogether.
A management system meeting ISO 22301 (Business Continuity) uses a business impact analysis to help you identify the key functions in your business and the steps required to minimise the impact of an unexpected event through the implementation of recovery plans.
What is ISO 22301?
ISO 22301 is an international standard and it describes how to manage business continuity in an organisation to ensure continuity of products and services.
The process includes carrying out a business impact analysis to find out business continuity priorities, a risk assessment to identify what potential disruptive events can affect business operations, defining what needs to be done to prevent such events from happening, and putting actions plans in place to recover critical operations in the shortest time possible.

ISO 22301 Certification
The ISO 22301 standard is applicable for companies of all sizes across any industry, and becoming certified is not as confusing as it first seems. The certification process consists of an initial assessment (stage 1) which determines if the mandatory requirements of the standard are being met and if the management system is capable of proceeding to the next stage. The second assessment (stage 2) determines the effectiveness of the system and seeks to confirm that the management system is implemented and operational.
